LITURGICAL CELEBRATIONS & SACRAMENTS

Please contact the Cathedral Center (337-232-1322) for any of the following:

Baptism

Baptisms are held on the first Saturday of each month following the 4:00 PM Mass. Please contact us at least three weeks in advance to schedule your child’s Baptism.

We kindly ask that before calling, you gather information such as parents’ full names, Godparents’ full names and correct spelling, and approximate date that you would like the Baptism to be held.

First Penance & First Holy Communion

The Sacraments of First Reconciliation (First Penance) and First Holy Communion normally take place when a child is in their 2nd grade year of school. Pre-registration is required for both Sacraments and should be no later than August 1 of each year.

·         Preparations for First Penance begin in September with the child receiving the Sacrament in November.

·         Preparations for First Holy Communion begin in January with the child receiving the Sacrament in April.

Confirmation

Our Confirmation program is a three-year program, which includes St. John Teen Ministry, beginning in your child’s 9th grade (freshman) year of school and ending with the Sacrament of Confirmation in their 11th grade (junior) year. Pre-registration is required by August 1 at the beginning of your child’s freshman year.

Marriage

Couples wishing to be married in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist are encouraged to contact our Wedding Coordinator, Mrs. Joan Sims to discuss scheduling and procedures.  All engaged couples must plan to meet with our Wedding Coordinator a minimum of six months prior to the intended wedding date to allow sufficient time for marriage preparation as directed by Diocesan policy.  We accept reservations and deposits up to twelve months in advance of your intended wedding date.

Weddings at the Cathedral are celebrated on Friday evenings at 7:30 PM and on Saturdays at 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM.  We do not have Saturday evening weddings and no weddings are celebrated during Lent.

Anointing of the Sick
Formerly known as “Last Rites” and performed immediately prior to death, this sacrament is appropriate not only for those at the point of death, but also for those who are seriously or chronically ill.  If possible, please do not wait until a loved one is incapacitated or in the hospital, but contact us at the Cathedral Center as soon as possible to schedule an anointing. Anointing services are also celebrated during the Lenten season.
